Many full tower cases have space for 2 power supplies as there is a usual need for the extra
power for the silly amount of fans, there are a few ways of making the power supply come on
when you power up the computer, 1, and I like this one, is to ram a paper clip up the green
and black wires on the mother board header and then use the switch on the back of the PSU,
the other way is to cut the wires and put a switch on them. I think it is time we used an
automatic way to sort this out, I use a relay, (Thanx to Faulky I actually tried it) and it
worked.
Here's How:
First we need a relay, pick one up from and car or auto electrical place, they all have them.
They are around £8 for a good one; I would not trust the cheep ones, as they will not last.
You will also need:
Cutters
A Crimpier or big Pliers
Crimps
Screw Driver
Joining Blocks
What you need to do is to find a 12v line, has got to be of the PSU that is attached to the
Mother Board…
Cut the yellow and the black next to it and put a joining block on it…
Find the mother board header on the 2nd PSU and cut the green and the black next to it, put a
joining block on this like we did the 12v line…
Connect a piece or 2-core wire to each of the joining blocks…
Then you need to put a crimp on the other or these wires so it will connect to the
relay…
Now find the wiring diagram of your relay, if you have got the relay off me it will have a
wiring diagram on the side, if you got the relay yourself there may be one on the packet if
it is not on the relay, connect the wires to the relay in the order it
stats…
The 12v line will be connected to the magnet and the motherboard header will be connected to
the switch.
