Title : Everglide's New Mouse Surface
Page : 1 of 1 Author : James Date : 26/01/2002 22:50:37

The following mouse surface was sent to us from the masters of all mouse surfaces, everglide !

We all know everglide as a big developer and manufacturer for mouse surfaces; we either own a everglide one or a ratzpad ! I'm in favour for everglide, but will I still be with everglide new surface? - everglide say that this has been in development for almost a year. It obviously shows they have put much consideration into it, with what gamers and general users want taken into consideration.

Not only does a mouse surface need to be lightning fast, but they need a variety of eye catching designs, and something different. The orginal everglide surfaces used game names and patterns to add a touch to the surface. But at first glance, the new gaming mat doesn't seem anything special:

The new gaming mat, looks the same as everything else at first glance

Right, the specs of the surface:

  • 8" high
  • 10 1/2" Wide
  • 1/16" Deep

Side view of the new surface

Top view of the new surface - Nice designs eh ? :D

Also, it's PAPER THIN !! That's the main focal point on the surface, it's so flat ! But, as I mentioned earlier, this looks like a normal surface, like something that you buy from PCWORLD and this may put some people off buying one.

But - everglide have tried to add a few touches to the mat. Firstly, the "flatness" I mention above. The mat also has a very grippy bottom, great for those intensive CS games :D - The part that shows the mat is 1337, is the top. They come in 5 different designs, being :

"Asian Swords"

"Celtic Arms"

"Cyborg"

"Special Ops"

"Works"

A nice grippy rubbery bottom, it actually works :D

As you can see, everglide have gone for a different design approach this time. We are used to see an everglide surface with a "game theme", but now we see a 3D effect with good looking design ! There's no complaint from me at all about the designs, they are good ! What's also great about the design is that it won't rub off after heavy usage, whereas with the attack pads and alikes the design used to rub off after usages. These definitely won't !

Me conclusion is to buy one of these, and at just over £7 ($9.92) its a good bargain ! You get great performance and a good looking, space saving pad. everglide have got a winner here!

    Pros
  • Paper-thin, very space saving
  • Great looking "different" designs
    Disadvantages
  • At first glance it does look like an ordinary mat
