Title : NetGear Ethernet Switch FS108 Overview
Page : 1 of 1 Author : Mr Grumpy Date : 20/01/2002 13:53:15

It’s exactly what it says on the box, an incredibly fast network switch, this review is more of congratulation to NetGear for producing an excellent piece of hardware. This switch is neither the top of the range or the bottom of the range, it’s priced for small businesses or the home use, and that is what it does perfectly. This isn’t the cheapest switch on the market however spending a little more is never normally a bad thing when it comes to computers. And this switch is no exception; it has a metal case to be very sturdy and looks good!

The switch

Before I had this switch I ran a home network running on a 10 Base T Hub and was forever having problems with requests timing out when the network was busy, so after plugging this little beauty in there was a noticeable difference in performance (not surprisingly) and the network traffic problems where a thing of the past. The little box you get for your money is excellent, the switch is 10/100 Base T auto sensing and gives full information about the traffic through LED’s. This is perfect for me as I can tell who is hogging all the bandwidth and unplug them; the unit is small and lightweight and is also wall mountable, it produces minimal heat so storage in a draw or cupboard should not be a problem. All in all this switch is excellent, cheers NetGear for another excellent job.
